Stories of our Heroes: US Army SGT Jamie Jarboe

Posted on March 30, 2017May 6, 2022

The Military Warriors Support Foundation honors the sacrifice of Jamie Jarboe by assisting his surviving spouse. Working with our generous donors, we are happy to be awarding her a move-in ready, mortgage-free home.

Jamie Jarboe started his military career by joining the Indiana National Guard. A little time later he enlisted into the Regular Army, where he would spend the next 10 years of his life. He ended up serving two combat deployments to Iraq and one to Afghanistan, where he faithfully served and ultimately gave his life in service to his country, his comrades and his family.

Jamie’s Command Sergeant Major spoke very highly of him,

“I was Jamie’s CSM. He was a completely honorable man and I worked with him on day-to-day operations. He was a young Soldier who could always get things done and had a great attitude. He loved cars, he had a yellow and black Dodge truck that looked like a bumble bee. He just loved that thing. He could talk about cars all day long if you let him. He was a great guy.”

Command Sergeant Major is one of the highest ranks that can be achieved in the enlisted ranks of the U.S. Army.

Melissa Jarboe and her husband, Jamie Jarboe eloped on Valentine’s Day 2011 and Jamie was deployed to Afghanistan later that month. In just 2 short months, while patrolling in the Zhari district he was shot by a sniper. The Fort Riley Soldier endured more than 100 surgeries as he fought to recover from his injuries, but ultimately succumbed to his combat incurred wounds on March 21, 2012.

“Jamie loved the military so much that even in his last few days, when asked if he regretted or would change anything, he said ‘No, I’d take the bullet again,‘ ” his wife said.
